Real estate and land law covers all legal relationships in connection with the ownership and other rights to land, buildings and parts of buildings. This includes the purchase, the sale, the encumbrance and the transfer of real estate, land and residential property as well as the property management.
In Germany, property is recorded in a cadastre and kept in the land register. All legally relevant property disposals, e.g. the transfer of land or the encumbrance of the property with a landlord’s lien as a security, are to be registered in the land register.
The real estate and real estate law is associated with numerous other areas of law such as private construction law, the law of succession, family law or liability and insurance law.
